A domain is the first impression of your site from a visitors point of view. It's what the user will remember your site by. Choosing a domain that relates to your site and that is easy to remember is a necessary for others to return to your site. There are several websites that help you with picking your domain like:
NameBoy
WhoIs.Net (search through deleted domains)
GoDaddy.com (gives a lot of very good suggestions if the domain your looking for is taken)
You can also add suffixes and prefixes to the domain name you want to register . Of course, the shorter the domain, the easier it is to remember. Try to fit in as many keywords as possible for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) purposes. Your page will be indexed much quicker if your domain relates to your website. Try to find .com domains since that's the first extension people type in, but don't be afraid of .net, .org or even .info or .us domains if your site directly relates to those extensions. You can always register more then one since domains are relatively cheap ($5 to $10).
The registrar I'd suggest is NameCheap.com and Web.com. I've never had any problems with neither of them. NameCheap.com keeps all of my domains organized in a very easy-to-use fashion and let's me pay directly through my Visa or Google Checkout. It also updates my whois records almost instantly, making it possible for me to work on a site right after registering the domain.
PS: When getting packages with your hosting provider, you will probably be able to register a domain on their server through their registrar. I'd highly recommend against this! After your hosting expires with their company, or even if you want to change hosts, it might be much more difficult to transfer your domain or even impossible.
